Meet Dr. Saumeel Mehta, MD
My name is Saumeel Mehta, MD and I am a Pediatrician by profession for the past 12 years. I was born in India but raised in New Jersey. I graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in Biochemistry, Ross Medical School and residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. I joined Dr. Payal Patel in February 2010 at Sunshine Pediatrics of Florida after working with a busy pediatric practice in NJ from 2006 to January 2010.
I often get asked why I became a Pediatrician. My answer has always been the same; I wanted to do something that I enjoy for the rest of my life. Retrospectively, I don’t regret a single second of my journey so far. My experience being a Pediatrician has allowed me the opportunity to find my inner satisfaction. In the process, I have learned many things about the human nature of bonding and selfless love that on a daily basis reinstates my faith in the Supreme Being.
From the delivery room to the time the kids are off to college, there are various phases: holding a baby for the first time and having that indescribable feeling, watching them sit, walking, or talking for the first time. Isn’t it amazing to feel your heart melting for the first time? It happens when they smile or how it hurts when they cry, or during the moments from the first time they are off to school and making friends to learning how to read and write. From the extracurricular activities like sports, music, drama, etc. to the pubertal changes leading to the sense of independence and self-identity.
This journey of caring for an individual other than yourself and giving it all you got to make sure they succeed is a very important one. The values that are instilled during these times will determine the future of the world. And I get to be a part of that for many families that I get to work with. Teamwork with the parents and their kids allows me to contribute from an outside objective view and in the process assist in their health matters.
It has become my utmost belief that the only way to be efficient in my role is to work as a partnership with the caretakers, parents and respect their belief on how they want to raise their child.
In my time at Sunshine Pediatrics of Florida, I have met many of you and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives. I thank all of you who have believed in me and have been kind enough to refer your friends and families to help our practice grow. I hope all of you continue to shower your trust and faith upon me so that I continue to strive harder and more efficiently to help take care of your kids.
My wife, Vaishali Mehta is a full time mother who also pursues her love of art and is responsible for the beautiful murals painted in our new office. We have three kids who keep us busy in all sense of the word. Personally, I love hiking, traveling, keeping up with new technology, photography, playing sports.
